ARISE
PURPOSE
But how can they call on Him to save them unless they believe in Him? And how can they believe in Him if they have never heard about him? And how can they hear about Him unless someone tells them? And how will anyone go and tell them without being sent? That is why the Scriptures say, “How beautiful are the feet of the messengers who bring good news!” -Romans 10:14-15
Tuesday Night Bus Ministry
The Inner City Bus Ministry kicks off Tuesday September 13th. The bus ministry is a program for inner city kids ages 4-12. We meet at the Inner City Church at 6:30, load the buses, pick the kiddos up and take them back to the inner city for classes and fun together. At 7:45 we load back up and take the kids home. This is a great opportunity to hang out and be a light to kids who need it. We need people to ride the buses, assist with class and snacks, and just be there to help with crowd control. If you’d like to help out email Dianna at for more details.
Tutors needed for Learning Center
The Inner City Church is also looking for tutors for the Learning Center for the 2011-2012 school year. The learning center begins September 12th, it is for grades 1st-12th. It runs Monday-Thursday 4:30pm-6:00pm, but you can show up a little early and help with games and snacks if you can. If you’d like to help with the learning center you can email or call (256) 539-0712
Do Something
When looking through the gospels we see Jesus regularly use the words “go”, “spread”, and “do”. This is what we want to challenge our teens with: to Do Something. Not to merely be content with just following Jesus, but to do something that makes a difference. In fact if you read the words of Jesus, following and doing go hand in hand. You can’t fully follow Jesus unless you are willing do the will of God (Matthew 7:21).
Heading into our month of focusing on service, we have compiled a list of tasks that we want to challenge our teens to take part in. They are small challenges that won’t require a whole lot, but with all of us participating with have an enormous impact.
You can download the “Do Something Challenge” below

Purity
There is a great struggle for purity among teenagers today. It has been reported that pornography is the fastest growing addiction in America. Our students are tempted like never before. It’s our goal to equip students & parents of students as they take a stand for purity & commit to live a life of purity. Below you’ll find a few resources that we hope will help you. We’ll be adding to these as we gather more resources. Let us know if there is any way we can help you as you strive to live a God honoring life.

FAQ’S
Got questions about the Mayfair Youth Ministry? Great! We’ve got answers. And if you don’t find your answers here, just contact us & we would be happy to talk with you.
1. How can I help in the Mayfair Youth Ministry?
“You call me Teacher and Lord; and you are right, for so I am. If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet.” John 13: 13,14
One thing we always hear is “Call me if I can help.” Well, here is our call…HELP! We believe the best way to teach your child how to be a servant is by your own example. Also, there is no better way to know what’s going on than by being there! Here is a list of things you can do to help us:
Teach Class
We are always looking for caring adults who are skilled at teaching adolescents. Contact Mark Yokley, Scotty Sparks or Allen Reynolds if you’re interested.
Teacher’s Assistant
It’s much easier to teach if there is someone available to help with discipline, supplies, and adding additional perspective.
Huddle Leader
Every Grade in our youth group is a “Huddle” that meets once a month in someone’s home for food, fellowship & a devotional. We are always looking for godly mentors to work with our teens on a very relational level.
Host an Event at your House!
We are constantly looking for homes we can have devotional at or other special activities. If you’re willing to help, please let us know!
Chaperone Events
All of our events need adult chaperones. The best way to help here is to volunteer to come and not wait until we call you, so you can be a real asset in this area. We occasionally spend many “last minutes” trying to find parents to chaperone. Talk this over with your teen and make sure he/she is comfortable with your being there.
Drive the Bus
This is probably the hardest job we have because a CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) is required. It would be great if we had two dozen drivers but we only have a few. If you can do this, please do! Just contact Hugh Brady and he will get you the information you need to get your CDL.
Cook
Where there are kids, there are opportunities galore for food support! These vary from our service projects where we provide food for the needy, to cooking dessert for life groups, to making popcorn on Wednesday nights & donuts on Sunday Morning, to “feeding the masses” at our large group gatherings. Contact any event leader for more details.
Provide Input
We are not limited to the activities our deacons plan- in fact, we are always looking for fun, new exciting things to do! If you have any unique ideas for spiritually enriching activities (or fun stuff), please let us know. The more time our kids spend together at this age, the greater the chance of them becoming friends that “stick closer than a brother.” (Proverbs 18:24)
SPECIAL FOOTNOTE:
Parents are always welcome (and encouraged) to participate in our activities. In fact, most of our activities couldn’t happen without parental help. So don’t feel like you have to be personally invited to come to an event- feel free to invite yourself! Some of our events may be limited in number due to accommodations and we will “sign-up” parents on a first-come, first-serve basis. Let us know early
2. How can I keep informed about what’s happening in the youth ministry?
We have now made it simple for you to be “in the know” when it comes to our ministry. We have created three email list which you can subscribe to & receive weekly updates & any breaking news that affects our ministry. They are: , & . These will be used accordingly to bring you important information regarding our ministry. You can subscribe or unsubscribe to any of these list through our website. This list will not be used for junk mail & we are the only ones authorized to send mail to this list. We hope this will help us communicate more effectively to you this year.
To subscribe to any of these lists, just go to our website & follow the link. http://mym.mayfair.org
3. What does my teen need to do to go on a Mayfair Youth Trip?
We welcome every teen we meet to be involved in our ministry & activities. To go on any trip, there are always registration forms or trip applications. These must be turned in by the set deadline. Most importantly, we MUST HAVE a MEDICAL RELEASE form for every teen we take on any trip. This Medical release form can be downloaded from our web site. It is also available at the Mayfair Youth Office.
4. How can I get (or get my teen) involved?
First, the best step is to try & be a part of our regular ministry on Sundays & Wednesdays. Classes, Huddles & Devotionals are key starting points to building relationships with the teens & adults in our youth group. But second, you’ll never feel more a part of our youth group as you do when you go on a trip with us. For most teens, a retreat is a great way to get away, make friends, & begin to feel like the Mayfair Youth group is where they belong. Going on a mission trip is a an experience that will draw you closer than any other. It may be impossible to do everything, but the more you do, the more you’ll want to do. Always remember that you have Huddle Leaders, Youth Ministers & other adults who want to help you feel a part of our youth group.
5. Who are the Ministry Leaders, Deacons & Elders who oversee & work with the Youth Ministry?
Our Ministry is blessed beyond measure with 18 incredible men who serve as Deacons & Ministry Leaders in the Youth Ministry. These men play a very active, everyday role in the life of the youth ministry.
They are:
Junior High
Tracy Lamm, Allen Reynolds, CP Rieser, John Paul Smith, Kelley Smith, Darryl Wortman
Senior High
Hugh Brady, Mitch Hamric, Ken Jarratt, Conrad McRight, James Miller, Steve Oliver, Chris Smith, Scotty Sparks, Bruce Thompson, Mark Yokley
We are also blessed to have 2 wonderful elders that take their time & energy to work with our youth ministers, deacons & students. They are Denton Kimbrough & Joe Hendrix.
6. How many students are a part of the Mayfair Youth Group?
We are blessed to have more than 200 teenagers who are actively a part of our ministry. These sturdents represent more than 30 schools across North Alabama. We continue to encourage our teens & families to bring their friends to Mayfair so that we might continue to grow both numerically & spiritually.
Mayfair Youth Ministry: A Place to Belong
![]() Aubrey ![]() Jenna | The Mayfair Youth Ministry is truly designed to be a place for students in grades 6-12 to come & find where they belong. With teenagers from over 36 different schools across the valley, we welcome any teenager into our youth group. The Mayfair Youth Ministry is a place where students can come to know God, love God & serve God with their lives. In all things, we strive to help our young people develop a deep and abiding relationship with Jesus. You’ll find that our youth group is very active & that there is always something going on that is designed to encourage you in your walk with God. We hope you will come & join us as we discover what it means to be a teenager that seeks after God. - MYM Youth Staff
