Do Something

When looking through the gospels we see Jesus regularly use the words “go”, “spread”, and “do”. This is what we want to challenge our teens with: to Do Something. Not to merely be content with just following Jesus, but to do something that makes a difference.  In fact if you read the words of Jesus, following and doing go hand in hand.  You can’t fully follow Jesus unless you are willing do the will of God (Matthew 7:21).

Heading into our month of focusing on service, we have compiled a list of tasks that we want to challenge our teens to take part in.  They are small challenges that won’t require a whole lot, but with all of us participating with have an enormous impact.

For God, who said, “Let there be light in the darkness,” has made this light shine in our hearts so we could know the glory of God that is seen in the face of Jesus Christ
-2 Corinthians 4:6

This fall we are partnering with World Vision to shine a light and have a lasting impact on the life of someone in need.  We are sponsoring Amidu Mwidadi from Malawi, Africa.  On September 30th, we took up a collection for Amidu.  We wanted our teenagers to not just borrow money from their parents, but rather sacrifice some of what God has blessed them with.  This might mean skipping a meal and contributing that money, mowing lawns or other chores, or taking money that they were saving for something else and putting that toward supporting Amidu.  Our goal was to raise $425 to sponsor Amidu for this year.  The Result: over $625 raised.  God has blessed our teenagers and put it on their hearts to use their resources to be a light.
