Current Needs:

• Your Prayers
• Travel Funds
(Approximately $1400 per person per trip)
• A place for the church to meet

David Blankenship and Carl Powell have begun working with the people of Panama over the last few years. Mayfair is supporting a missionary in the Bocas del Toro area in a small village called Cilico Creek.

In 2008, plans include being instrumental in starting and assisting an English-Speaking congregation in the capital city of Panama City. A City of over 1 Million people, many of whom speak english, and no English-Speaking Church of Christ.

Recently, it has been reported that about 1,000 people per month are moving to Panama from the United States to retire. That is about 12,000 prospects each year! With God’s help, we will start an english congregation and begin searching for these people to invite them to attend.

New Orleans - a city still reeling from the effects of a hurricane over a year
ago, a city where more water still leaks out of the underground pipes
than enters into people’s homes, there are thousands of people seeking
restoration, not only for their homes, but for their lives as well.
What an amazing chance to extend to them, through our care and
service, the loving hand of God, who wants to help them put back
together the broken pieces of their lives, building on the solid
foundation of His Truth! - Fred Franke, Director

There are currently over 120 Churches of Christ on the island of Cuba, each congregation sending representative leaders to the conference. The church is alive and well in this Communist country, and God continues to use this conference to bless his people there.

HISTORY
Mervyn served in the Merchant Navy where he worked as a purser for twenty years and traveled all over the world. He then left the boats to follow Jesus. The Pasqualle’s and another family took a big step of faith to start a work in Mitchell’s Plain, Cape Town, an impoverished area with a population of about 1 million people.

In 1986 their new congregation began in a school classroom, with 15-20 people worshipping in a classroom. Three years later, in 1989 the young church moved into a brand new building, thanks to help from Mayfair and other US congregations.

TODAY

Over 20 years later, the congregation comprises over 200 Christians. They installed three elders in 2006 and have two preachers. They have AM and PM services; a Wednesday evening Bible study; weekly ladies’ classes; weekend youth meetings; a pre-school program with 120 children; leadership classes; and various outreach programs.

Hello, my name is Nicole Linebaugh and I serve as a missionary in Warsaw, Poland (i.e. Polska).  I graduated in 2002 from Freed-Hardeman University with a double bachelor’s degree in World Culture and Vocational Ministry.  I have been in Warsaw for one year and work with four other team members from the Memorial Road Church of Christ in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

As part of the Warsaw church’s evangelistic outreach through its Bible Institute, I teach conversational English using the Bible.  I am in the process of developing a children’s Bible curriculum for the church as well. Additionally, I will train some of the Polish women to be teachers and show them how to develop their own materials.

brief descriptionPoland, part of the European Union, has a population of 38,626,349 (July 2004 estimate). Warsaw or Warszawa, the capital of Poland and seventh largest city in Europe, has approximately three million inhabitants (most of whom are Catholic). To help me integrate more fully into the Polish culture, I am trying to learn their language via a private tutor who provides me with excellent personal instruction on a weekly basis.

brief descriptionThis mission effort supports the work of the campus ministry at the SUNY Buffalo, NY campus. The Commons Christian Fellowship is Bible-based group on SUNY Buffalo Campus. (University at Buffalo). We meet every Wednesday night at 7pm on North Campus, in 200 The Commons. We are associated with the Amherst Church of Christ, which meets every Sunday morning at 9:30 at 8285 Transit Road.

I’ve loved two things for as long as I can remember: God and people. I felt, then, that it would make sense for me to have a life of ministry. I’m happy to be working as a campus minister at SUNY Buffalo. I’ve also worked on the Cornell University campus and in the Churches of Christ in Switzerland.

Current Needs:
  • Help us give the brethren of the Naama and Ovambo tribes dignity and recognition by giving them a place of worship
  • We would like to train a man from Namibia to go preach to their own and one from Piketberg. We have identified these families. We can do this, with financial help
  • We solicit your encouragement and prayers
Send a Note of Encouragement

HISTORY
Peter Manuel studied at Sunset School of Preaching from 1974. After he returned home, he baptized most of his family into Christ; two of his brothers are now preaching the gospel full time. In July of 1979 Peter and his wife started to work with Athlone church in their new building and grew the church from there on to its present day status. The present church building has seating for five hundred and is a monument to the missional spirit of the men of the Athlone church. More than ten other congregations have been founded, at least indirectly, because of the work at Athlone, from training men at preaching schools to constructing buildings for other congregations.

At present, the Athlone church serves their community via a preschool which takes in children from toddler to five years of age, as well as an elementary and high school. They are also involved in a mission work in Namibia. Peter plans to spend two more years to fulfill a dream there, a congregation with their own place of worship.

TODAY
Peter is now 71, and Cathy will turn 70 next year. They have three faithful and special children: Coleen, Deon, and Viola. They are all married, and between them have provided Peter and Cathy six grandchildren.

Send a Note of Encouragement

HISTORY
Phillip and his family started the Ennerdale church from scratch in 1995 in their home. 18 months later, they moved into a rented school classroom. However, as the church continued to grow, they were limited in what they could do in the school classroom. Therefore they moved out and we rented a house in which to worship. In 2001, Phillip and his wife Michelle traveled to the USA to raise funds. With the help of churches in the USA, the Ennerdale congregation has recently purchased a house and renovated it into a church, where they are worshipping presently.

TODAY
Attendance is 75-80, and since January 2007 the congregation has had seven baptisms and two restorations, and are continuing to grow.
Some of the outreach programs at Ennerdale include: door-to-door knocking campaigns, VBS, Marriage Enrichment seminars, personal vistations program, a personal home Bible study program; leadership classes for men, and a tract drive.

Ghana, West Africa continues to be one of the world’s most receptive nations.  This is due in part to the very caring nature of the people and their respect for authority.  This nation of about 20 million people have an eager desire to learn about the world, about other nations, about nature and about God and His Word the Bible.
brief description
In Yendi, a large city in the Northern Region, the church is growing very well.  Preachers are being trained and they are spreading the gospel, even as they learn.  One of the very first preachers there is John Konbunja.  John is a tireless worker and spends much of his time training men there to preach.  He has a church building near his own dwelling and has invited men from churches in the area to come for two days of intensive training every other week.  He has now 83 who attend his school.  The job is a big one so he has two preachers from Kumasi to come and help with the classes.  These young preachers are on fire for the Lord.

This kind of work goes on all over Ghana.  They now have well over 2,000 churches.

brief description
HISTORY:
Mayfair Church of Christ in Huntsville, Alabama began helping to establish churches of Christ in Baja California, Mexico (Baja) in the spring of 1997.  Stan Stout, the director of the City of Children, Ensenada, Baja took six Mayfair members to San Quintin, Baja, to see what the needs were there.  These members volunteered to bring back a team to pour the concrete floors and put a roof on the church building.  Mayfair also volunteered to take over the spiritual and financial support of Mario and Lucia Banuelos, and the Baja work began.

OVERSIGHT:
Over the passing years, congregations have been established at six other locations in the Baja.  Each of these congregations is supported by autonomous congregations in the United States.  The Mayfair elders now oversee the work of Baja Missions, Inc., a new, 501C3 non-profit corporation established to continue the Baja Missions work.
